SEITH

Marybell’s scent laced with fear made me walk away before I bent her over the couch and shagged her silly all the way to the next full moon. No nesting required. And that would be a shame, because I bet Marybell is looking forward to using the nesting supplies waiting for her in the trunk the fairy princess brought.

I snort.

I bet Marybell isn’t looking forward to coupling with me, but the fact that she will makes me seem like the evil mastermind even if I’m not. Her beloved princess encouraged the mating, and that alone should help her accept me as her male. What didn’t help was Lenox and me having the lycan mate chat. Namely because he has a mate, and I don’t. There hasn’t been a Natra-blessed lycan mating in the Ott clan for so long, I can’t even remember the last mated pair.

Besides, now that he thinks Kilseleians who are breeders are also lycan mates, he’ll expect Marybell to be one too. Since I have no intention of giving her up to someone else now that I’ve decided to breed her, I couldn’t care less if she’s another wolf’s mate. If a male tries to claim her, I’ll end him.

That settled, I jog toward the forest, whistling as I go. My clan mates join me for the run toward the passage beyond Galloping Lake, which marks the border of our territory with the McMar clan. Lenox might take the alternate route, but I doubt he will, since scaling the mountain is dangerous, and he’s carrying precious cargo.

And it’s not only his mate I must ensure safe passage for. The McMars brought the fae princess, and while I’ve no doubt she could defend herself, I can’t take a chance of us being the clan accused of attacking her. More than three dozen of my males are unaccounted for and are presumably with Dan. If he’s gone rogue with that many lycans, there’s no telling what he’ll do.

Since they’re driven by revenge and feel that the McMars owe them lycan lives, the possibility that they’re convinced an attack on the convoy would be justified is high. I can’t allow Dan to jeopardize the peace his brother died for.

Doug never wanted a war. He just wanted an omega. That’s the rub. His brother was a friend, and I mourn his passing every span.

The forests seems busy.

My lycans on patrol are howling as I’m running in wolf with the half dozen males who followed me from the settlement. We can’t speak, but we communicate via howling, and the patrol lycans are telling me that they’re seeing activity in the woods.

On all fours, as I sprint, the trees blur. My destination is the lake, more specifically the bridge over the wide lake, because that’s what I would take: the fastest route back into the safety of my own territory.

The scent of many wolves is fresh and strong here, and my upper lip lifts when the scent of markings on the trees hits me.
