****Chapter 11 ****

Ambra Part Two

I spent many years with Deimos. Trying to learn all I could about what we were and what we could do. Deimos was very secretive when it came to providing details. I understood that he was attempting to keep me under his control. And I allowed him to think that he had control. That way, he was more receptive to my inquiries.

And for a long time, I wondered why Wolfram never changed. I knew he was not a vampire as we were. But Wolfram lived on and aged slowly. I would bring up the subject to Deimos and he would skirt around the issue. It infuriated me. I wanted to know how Wolfram could still live. At first, I had thought if I learned the secret, that one day it may come to my aid. I envisioned saving a family member, or dear friend. As if I would ever have a dear friend now. But the idea remained in my thoughts until I found out the truth.

Now, I had always known that Deimos abused Wolfram. In many ways. He ridiculed him constantly. Even I did that. Wolfram was a source of entertainment for me. I loved to watch him flinch or run screaming away from me. But there were times that I noticed bruises upon him, and I had attributed it to the fact that Wolfram was a complete imbecile. Always bumping into things and clumsy. But I never realized Deimos beat upon him until years later. I gather, I did not really care to find out. For Wolfram meant nothing to me. I really did not care if he even existed.

But one evening, I had come back from a little escapade, exploring London, and taking in all the sights. I did this often, trying my best to stay away from Deimos as much as possible and still trying to escape the fact of what I had become. As I landed in front of the castle, I noticed a silence to the place. Normally, it was filled with sounds. The sounds of the servant girls laughing. Deimos barking orders. But upon this night, it was silent.

I entered the castle and found the servants, all doing their thing, but they were not speaking. I ignored them and started for my room. As I passed Wolfram’s room, I heard him pleading. It was most annoying. A high-pitched squealing through blubbering tears. Even though I detested him, I was curious as to why he was making that sound. I quickly raced to my room, opened the window, and flew outside. I was going to spy on him through his bedroom window.

I approached it slowly, not wanting to be seen. I became perfectly still and peeked inside. There, I saw Wolfram. I had thought it was nothing more than another one of his childish temper tantrums, but I was mistaken. Wolfram was down on his knees, begging like an animal to Deimos. Deimos was standing above him, looking all too conceited.
