Chapter 9

I lie suspended in a blue cloud, floating in a sky of blissfulness that is colored in pinks, purples, and blues. There is no cave system in sight, just these fluffy clouds. Not even the mage was anywhere to be seen unlike the last time he helped me with my memories or sent me to sleep. I look down at my hands and feel my teeth that are back to normal and no longer animal like or shadow covered.

“Shade?” I whisper quietly, needing him here with me. I hope he is more healed now. I was getting tired of not being protected as the spell was supposed to work.

A dark form emerges from the hues of blue, something seems odd about the way it moves and a weird purple glow emits from the center.

I roll my eyes, “Quintan, is that you?” I bark out. His form comes closer and begins to materialize into Quintan’s form as he comes closer.

“Alexia, why yes, it is me, are you yourself again?” He wheezes a bit as he makes his way over sluggishly, leaning to one side. I rise up from my position, it looks like we are in the clouds but the ground looks solid enough. I give him a once over as he hobbles closer.

“I was always myself. What is wrong with you?” I cross my arms in front of myself.

“You grew so angry, I had to knock you out once again to figure out what triggered you to attack.” He huffs out. “Though the snake charmed you partially you did not make it easy for me to put you out when you were in that state.”

“I was fine.” I ground out. A shuddering sound echoes far away.

Quintan gasps and looks around waiting and searching around us. “I do not say this to upset you, please know that, Alexia. Blaise had to help keep you calm. His is a gift and why we need him here helping. He can step in and control a situation if it gets out of hand.”

“You could have gone about it a different way.” I pause. “Or you know, try asking?” I say in a snide tone.

“The dagger would not let you calm down, it wanted blood, more importantly it wanted to be used,” he states calmly, still looking around at the clouds as they roll by.

“Right,” I echo, looking down at my palm at the slice that was there but not there. I flex my palm feeling the sting of it regardless. “What was that dagger anyway?”

“A relic and ancient athame that was imbued with powers to get at the truth, it can also be used in certain spells to make them stronger.” He continues. “Though it should have been kept locked away behind some sort of protective barrier.”

I think back over the last few moments before everything became hectic and I lost control. “It sang to me, called to me.” I hum a few bars at the end.

Quintan turns fully to me. “It did?” he says in confusion.
