Chapter Six

Lleau stood on the veranda and looked out over the rocky desert range. He was expecting Aki shortly. But even with what was left of the sunset’s rays sliding behind the horizon causing a glare, his eyes picked up three dragons heading his way. He frowned and turned to walk around the house. Either there was new information he had not yet been made aware of or Orin didn’t trust him to get the job done on his own.

He crossed to the pool where Shanna was cutting her way through the water, naked. A sliver of desire made its way through him as he gazed at her body. For the past few days he made her scream, moan and beg. Her body had become an addiction to him. No matter how many times he made love to her, it never assuaged his desire. She stopped mid-lap when she sensed him standing nearby. He saw her pert breasts through the rippling water and was tempted to get in with her.

“Hey.” She gave him a slow smile. “You want to join me? We could play the naughty version of Marco Polo.”

He was half tempted to say yes, but shook his head. “My dragon brothers are on their way. I saw them in the distance. Could you go upstairs and get dressed, please?”

“Sure.” She swam over to the edge and held her hands up to him. He lifted her from the water easily and she leaned in to give him a kiss. “Is everything okay?”

“Yes. The problem is that I only expected Aki, but there are two others with him.” Lleau pressed his forehead against her wet one. “Go change and then come into the kitchen.”

She nodded and went inside through the sliding doors by the pool. He retraced his steps back to the veranda and waited for his friends to descend from the sky. It was Aki, Hawke and Orin. He went down to one knee when they shifted and approached him.

“My king,” Lleau said, showing Orin respect.

“I really wish people would stop doing that,” Orin said. “Seriously, get up, Lleau. This crap is making me uncomfortable.”

“You’re the ruler of Paladin. You deserve our homage.” Lleau stood and looked at his friends. He clasped Aki’s and then Hawke’s hand in greeting. “When I called you, Hawke, I didn’t expect you to bring the king. I could’ve saved you the trouble and let you know I contacted Aki to come out.”

“I know, mate. He didn’t know we were coming either. We kind of flew coincidentally in the same direction and at the same time,” Hawke said. “Let’s go inside and get changed. This may be the desert, but it gets nippy here at night, I see.”

“I have food and beer,” Lleau said. “You must be hungry.”

“I won’t say no to your cooking,” Orin said.

“Clothes are in the downstairs guestroom.”
