“I really like Bill and Dix. Thank you for introducing me to them.”

Maggie smiled and glanced at Rory as she drove them home. “I’m glad. They seemed to like you too. I’m surprised you let Dix call you Merida.”

“I kinda was too. Usually when Rachel does it, it pisses me off. Probably because I know she does it to get on my nerves, and he wasn’t.”

“Maybe so. I think having butched-up princesses is something Disney should consider, however.” Maggie chuckled and patted Rory on the knee.

Rory rested her hand on Maggie’s right thigh and let it stay there. Maggie liked the possessive feel.

Then the laughter died away and Rory turned serious. “Hey, Maggie?”

“Yes?”

“Can we invite Rachel over tomorrow night? I want to share this with her. She’s my best friend and it feels wrong to keep it from her.”

Maggie hesitated. “I just worry because she’s still a student. What if she said something to her other friends?”

“She wouldn’t do anything that would hurt me.”

She sighed. “Okay. I suppose it’s only fair. And if we’re going to be a part of each other’s lives that means all the other people in our lives that come with us.”

“I’m glad you feel that way, because my parents are coming down next weekend.”

“What?”

Rory laughed. “That was easy.”

“You’re joking?”

“Yes.”

“I swear to God, Aurora Morgan, if I wasn’t driving right now…”

“What’re you going to do?”

“Just wait until I get you home.” She put her hand on top of Rory’s and laced their fingers together.

“Promises, promises. Besides, you were going to tell me about Maxine.”

Might as well get that over with. Maggie pulled into her driveway and said, “That’s right.”

Rory squeezed her hand once the car was in park. “It’s okay. I know it’s your past, and I’m not going to hold it against you. I just want to know. Then I can tell you about my not-so-exciting dating life.”

“You’re right.” Maggie leaned in and gave Rory a soft kiss on the lips. “Okay, let’s go do this, because if I don’t get to spend the rest of the evening kissing you, I just might die of hunger.”

“We wouldn’t want that.” Rory kissed her but pulled back at the last moment with a chuckle. “You want these lips, baby, you gotta earn them. Come on.” She opened her car door and Maggie moaned.

“You are so cruel.”

Rory laughed as she went up to the door ahead of Maggie and waited for her to come and unlock it. Maggie followed behind, shaking her head in amusement. She just hoped the good mood would continue as they broached the subject of Maxine. She unlocked the door and they went inside. As Maggie closed the door behind them, Rory grabbed her hand and gave her a small smile, which she returned.

“Come on, let’s sit down and you can tell me a story.”

Maggie let herself be led to the couch and they sat facing each other. “Okay. God, where to start?”

“At the beginning. How’d you meet?”

“We met when I came to work here six years ago.
