Jennifer couldnât believe her eyes.
The cat was sound asleep on the bearâs chest and the bear appeared to be asleep as well.
Not only that, but Shredder was purring.
Unbelievable.
Even as she was thinking that maybe she should just step out and leave the bear to bond with the cat on his own, Bryceâs eyes opened and he scowled at her.
And there he was.
Cranky Bear.
âWhatâs wrong, CB?â
A perplexed look crossed Bryceâs face. âCB?â
She grinned. âShorthand for Cranky Bear.â
He scowled. âNo.â
She giggled. âI canât believe youâre still in a bad mood. How can you be cranky when youâve got a purring cat on your chest?â
âQuite easily, especially when that cat is Shredder. You mind getting him off me?â
Jennifer grinned. âWhat, are you afraid to do it yourself?â
âUh, yeah.â
Jennifer laughed. âFine. Come here, baby.â She picked Shredder up and cuddled him a moment before setting him down on the floor.
Bryce sat up and glared at her. âI canât believe you.â
âOh, for heavenâs sake. Whatâs your problem now? I just helped you, didnât I?â
Bryce surged to his feet, reached over the back of the couch and yanked the curtains wide. âThatâs my problem.â
She looked out the window, then back at Bryce. âI donât get it.â
âWhy is there an inflatable polar bear on my front lawn?â
âAre you kidding me? Because itâs awesome!â
âIt is not awesome. Itâs ridiculous!â
âYouâre ridiculous. That polar bear is perfect!â
âYouâre insane. Thatâs the only possible explanation.â Bryce crossed his arms and glared at her. âYouâre insane.â
âHeâs the perfect Christmas accessory for a polar bearâs home!â Jennifer waved her arms and began to pace back and forth. âHow can you not see that?â She couldnât believe how stubborn Bryce was. She stormed to the front door and flung it open. âLook at him! Heâs so big and white and glowing and heâs got a Santa hat and a scarf and heâs wearing ice skates! How can you not love him?â
Bryce stamped to the front door and peered out it. âHeâs wearing ice skates?â
âYou didnât notice?â
âHell, no, I didnât notice!â He flung open the door, stormed down the porch steps and stamped through the snow toward the polar bear. He glared down at its feet and let out a low growl.
She was right.
It was wearing ice skates.
Jennifer reached his side and Bryceâs frustration boiled over.
He whirled and yelled in her face, âWhy is the polar bear wearing ice skates?â
Jennifer took a step back, belatedly registering how annoyed Bryce really was. âWell, maybe heâs a shifter bear.â
âA shifter bear who ice skates in his shifter form?â
Jennifer shrugged. âMaybe.â
Bryceâs eyes narrowed and he stormed toward her.
She scrambled back, but he jut kept coming and suddenly he was right there, in her space, grabbing her shoulders, hauling her up on her toes and thenâ
He kissed her.
