Everything’s been done. That’s what they always say, right? Maybe it’s true, but you can choose to flip that flimsy excuse on its head by putting your own modern spin on something from the good old days.

It’s time to do a bit of digging. Go back through art history and find a technique that looks interesting to you, and then apply it to a subject from pop culture. For example, recreate a Kim and Kanye selfie as a Japanese woodcut; paint a climate change fresco; take your favorite emojis back to their hieroglyphic roots (add gold foil as needed).
