Chapter 18

Hailey's Point of View

I was really hoping I wouldn't have to use manipulation and games tonight. When Blake pulled me into his arms, I was hoping I'd call him out on not being consistent, and he'd admit that he had changed his mind… but he reaffirmed that he doesn't want to date at the moment. If that's the truth, what I'm about to do won't bother him. I walk straight to the bar; if I do this, I need a buzz. I've been drinking a lot of water, and I'm barely feeling anything now.

I see a good-looking guy as I walk through the crowd, and my arm grazes his arm as I pass him. Oops. I turn to him, "Sorry," and I give him my sweetest smile. He smiles and nods. My gaze lingers for a second, but then I turn and head to the bar. I put a little extra sway in my hips, and within 30 seconds, the tall, dark-haired, handsome stranger is beside me.

"Hey," he smiles.

"Hey!" I chirp. The bartender comes to me.

"Two shots of Fireball, please," I smile and raise two fingers.

"Make it four, but I got them," he says and hands the man his card.

"I can buy my own drinks," I raise a brow and give him a cheeky smile.

"But should you have to?" he beams.

"I'm Hailey," I smile and extend my hand. It's good for optics if Blake can see we're getting acquainted.

"Peter," he says, and his hand grabs mine and shakes it.

We get our drinks, and I thank Pete.

"Cheers," he smiles, and we clink. We down it, then grab the next, clink and down it. He hands me his drink to chase, and I take a sip of his beer. It's good for optics.

We speak for a few minutes, and when 'Electric love' comes on, I admit I love the song.

"Do you wanna dance?" he asks.

"Let's do it," I smile.

I pull us into the crowd. I didn't want to be too obvious and bring him right in front of Blake. I don't want Blake to think I'm just doing this to make him jealous. I need him to think I'm doing this for me, not him. They are at the pool table area, which is two steps elevated from the dance floor, so no matter where I am, he can see me if he wants to. Here's hoping he does.

We start to dance, and I want to look and see if Blake's even watching, but I can't risk blowing my cover. I know this song has a trend on TikTok, and I'm hoping Pete here knows about it.

Blake's Point of View

My eyes are glued to her. Seeing her talk to another man. Shake hands with him. Do shots with him. When she turns to look at him, I can see the profile of her face, and she's smiling, and the bastard is too, and it fucking kills.

"Well, that's one way to get over someone," I hear Autumn chuckle.

"Oh, are they going to dance?" Ell asks, narrating as she watches it unfold.
