CHAPTER 7

Winter

I wrapped my legs around his waist as he pumped his hips into me harder. His thrusts sent tremors through my entire body, shaking his desk. A cup full of pens crashed to the floor, but he didn’t seem to notice. It was followed by a coffee mug, and I laughed against his lips, breaking the kiss. “Should we move?”

His eyes sparkled as his mouth curved into a crooked smile. “We already are.”

That grin was intoxicating, like all he cared about in this world was me. No one had ever looked at me like that. He slid his hands around to cup my ass and lifted me off the desk as his lips claimed mine again. I ground my hips into him as he walked down the hall to his bedroom. He lowered me onto the bed without separating our bodies.

This werewolf was ruining me for all other men.

He rested his elbows on either side of my head and stared down at me. “You’re so damned beautiful.”

Smiling, I rolled him over, so I was on top. I kissed him and sat up. “Better view?”

He arched a brow as his big hands ran slowly up my body. His fingers were splayed wide, possessive. And I loved it. I was screwing a werewolf. A chiseled, gorgeous werewolf. Somehow it felt unreal and so, so right all at once. Impulsive one-night stands weren’t usually my scene, but I had needed this.

The holidays were always lonely. I just wanted to feel something. Sure, he had a mate out there someplace. But tonight, I had his full attention.

Tomorrow didn’t matter.

His hand slid between my legs, and his fingers found my clitoris, teasing me until my orgasm stole my breath. I arched my back, surrendering to the passion washing through me. I never wanted it to end. My inner muscles clenched and, with one more thrust, he erupted deep inside me.

I collapsed onto his chest, basking in the afterglow as aftershocks of pleasure shot through my body. He wrapped his arms around me, and I listened to his heart race. I closed my eyes, wishing I could keep reality from crashing in on this moment.

Jackson kissed my shoulder. “That was amazing.”

I nodded without lifting my head. “Yeah.”

He whispered something as he nuzzled my hair, but I didn’t catch all of it. Something about his heart and protection.

I lifted my hips, separating our bodies before I snuggled in beside him. “What did you say?”

He looked over at me, searching my eyes for…something. I had no idea what. Finally, he blinked and shook his head. “Sorry, I should have told you this earlier, but I have a file in my desk for a baby abandoned in Salem around the same time as you were. Her name was Ashley, but it’s spelled, A-s-h-l-e-i-g-h.”

“Wow.” I chuckled. “Your pillow talk needs some work.”

He smirked. “I’m trying to explain. I think the people looking for her might be after you too.” He cupped my cheek. “And I wanted you to know I’ll protect you.
