CHAPTER 24

“So how are things?” Eric asked as they walked together in the castle. “You’ve been married to the Winter Lord for almost two months now.” He gave Dawn a once-over. “And you’re sparkling with happiness.”

She smiled and grabbed the end of her braid. “I am happy. He makes me happy.”

“I guess the sex is good.” Her brother laughed.

A few months ago, a statement like that would’ve made Dawn blush and feel insulted, but she’d slowly gotten used to a more open-minded view of intimacy. It didn’t surprise her Eric was like that either. He’d always been more open with everything.

“Yes, it is.”

Eric’s eyes widened. “That was a joke. I didn’t actually think you’re sleeping with him.”

“He’s my husband.”

Her brother cleared his throat. “Well, it sounds surreal to have that kind of relationship with any of them. They’re the Elders, you know.”

“And yet, I have.”

“You could get pregnant.”

Dawn frowned. “Really? I had no idea.” Sarcasm wrapped her words.

Eric snickered. “All right, I get it. You love him, he loves you, and you’re both living a wonderful fairytale.”

Heat hit her cheeks hard. “You could say that.”

It’d been two amazing months. After their honeymoon in the cave, she’d invited her family to the castle.

They’d come by for a day, but after that, her mother had refused to visit anymore.

Her father came from time to time, and Eric did, too. Sometimes, several days in a row, but Arissa still had a hard time accepting her marriage to the Winter Lord.

Her mother still believed no one had the right to marry the Elders. In her eyes, they were gods, and should be worshiped as such.

It saddened Dawn that her relationship with her mother was affected because of her marriage, but she tried not to dwell on it. She had Audren, and he was the best husband ever.

He treated her as if she was a queen. He was always loving, always caring, and in bed, he made sure she was satisfied.

She had a hard time getting used to touching him the way he touched her during their lovemaking, but she wanted to.

He never complained, but it was obvious he wanted more.

The first time he’d used his mouth on her sex, it’d shocked her. She hadn’t believed anything like that was possible, but the intense pleasure had made her long for more.

“Can you imagine what a baby of yours would look like?” Eric took an audible breath. “I sure can’t.”

“Well, soon enough you won’t have to imagine.”

He winced. “Are you pregnant?”

“Algar checks me from time to time, but there are no signs yet.”

“Who’s Algar?”

“He’s the medic. I like him. He’s a kind and wise man.”

They rounded a corner and halted when they spotted Mira with the Autumn Lord, further down the hallway.

Mira and Onyx didn’t appear to notice them, and soon they disappeared around another corner.

Mira was holding Onyx’s hand.

Just the sight of the Autumn Lord sent cold chills down Dawn’s spine. There was something about him she didn’t like. Maybe it was his personality, but the memory of what he’d said to her in the Room of Memory haunted her.
