Chapter Nine

“I’m not sure I want to go through with this,” I told Killick as we hurried towards the stones.

It had only taken us a moment to bond – Shit… I’d fucked the alpha. Bonding hadn’t even come into it, we had gone at it, plain and simple – and yet, we’d agreed that we had to at least bind together for the seven days. If anyone in the pack found out what we’d done, it would bring us dishonour, especially if we refused to at least try to become one. Even with the target on my head, they would expect us to obey the wolf spirit.

Killick glanced back at me, the moon highlighting the dark blonde of his hair and reflecting in his eyes. “I’m not best pleased about the circumstances either, but we don’t have a choice. Caleb will smell it all over us as soon as we get back.”

“Romantic,” I quipped, torn between the urge to be tied to him and the need to try and find my sister, before she was moved. “Wait.” Pausing at the edge of the treeline, I grabbed Killick’s arm, jolting at the spark of electricity that flew from my fingers and over his skin.

His jaw tensed as he stopped and looked down at me, his gaze softening for only a second. “What is it?”

“You’re meeting up with the others? I thought we would go there in secret.”

“We are.” Almost shrugging himself out of my grip, he went to walk forward.

I glanced out into the field, biting my lip when I spotted a small group of people in the centre. They were gathered around a standing stone, taking turns to bond with one another. In a past life, before my sister had betrayed the pack, I would’ve be fascinated and wanted to hang around to see what happened.

The bonding ceremony had been a big secret in the pack. I still wasn’t sure why they made it such a big deal. Now that I was kinda part of the elusive pack, I would take the time to find out why. Yes, Killick and I had just had mind-blowing sex, but so far, I hadn’t seen the big deal.

Killick had gone several steps, pausing when he didn’t feel me with him. His shoulders tightened as he turned back to me and opened his arms. “Why are you not coming?”

“Because you’re not making any sense.” Putting my hands on my hips, I stared at him. “And I’m not about to waltz into a group from our pack stinking of your semen.”

He stepped forward and hissed in my face. “I’m the alpha, you should be honoured that the wolf spirit chose you for me.”

My bark of laughter made him bend closer, his fingers gripping my wrist. “You weren’t laughing when I thrust between your legs, claiming you.”

Snapping my mouth shut, I sucked air through my lungs and glared at him. “You’ve just made it very clear that it shouldn’t have happened. And I happen to agree. Let’s just get this over with.
