Chapter Twenty-Two

Ezra

She was sitting on my couch, lost in her thoughts, with a blanket covering her body. She stared blankly at the screen ahead of her, not even flinching as the killer on the screen used his chainsaw to slit open a young girl.

I walked over to her with a cup of tea in hand, and I set it onto the coffee table for it to cool down. “Talk to me, Juno.”

I brushed her hair back, trying to meet her gaze. She finally moved her head, blinking and losing that deep crease between her brows. “I guess I am the main reason why you frown so much,” I chuckled, and she gave me a soft smile.

She reached out to fist my sweatshirt in her hand. “Is it wrong that I’m not scared anymore? I mean…I know it’ll be hard for you if we get caught, but I know it’s gonna be even harder to keep this secret.”

I knew exactly what she meant. I was still scared, though not as much anymore. Now that I had told her I was in love with her, there was no way back. She’s the one I wanted.

“I get it. I know what you’re feeling. But we both knew it wouldn’t be easy. I’d say we continue taking it slow. I want you to come over whenever possible, and take you places where no one will see us. It’s gonna be hard, and we’ll have to adjust,” I said, sighing at my own words. “But I want you. I love you, and I’m not giving up on you.”

“Promise?” she asked softly, giving me those puppy eyes I couldn’t resist.

“I promise, Juno.” I pulled her close to me, making her straddle my lap as she wrapped her arms around my shoulders.

“I’m in love with you too,” she whispered.

I rubbed her back and leaned against the couch, pulling her close while her hands moved into my hair.

Our love wasn’t wrong. I was lucky to have fallen for a beautiful, smart, and funny girl like Juno, and I would give my all to keep her right here in my arms.

She tugged on my hair, and I felt her lips move against the side of my neck. Although I was the one who wanted to take it slow, I couldn’t with Juno. Her scent surrounded me, pulling and capturing me into her bond.

“Ez?” she whispered close to my ear before leaning back and looking into my eyes. Hers were still filled with unshed tears. She was tense, and I wanted her to lose all that worry stacked up inside of her.

“Yes, sweetheart?”

“I want you to make love to me tonight.”

I smiled, cupping her face in my hands and brushing over her cheekbones with my thumbs. “You sure?”

It was an honor that she wanted me to be her first. I wasn’t going to mess it up. I wanted to show her how much I adored her.

She nodded. “Please.”

How could I ever say no to that? I leaned in to kiss
