I loved having the final word. After dropping that statement, I winked and left Bane with his jaw on the floor—pity it wasn’t his shorts. With a swing to my hips, I emerged from the bedroom to find my siblings admiring the view from the window.

“I can’t believe I’m in South America,” Frieda mumbled. “I wondered why I kept trying to put razors on my grocery delivery list.”

“You should get laser hair removal. Way better,” I chimed in.

Dina glanced at me. “You should have called.”

“I spent a few hours in the jungle before hitting civilization. By then, I knew you were already in the air.”

“What can I say? I was craving some heat. Besides, Frieda was a mess.”

“Was not,” Frieda mumbled.

“You were the one who called me shrieking, ‘That bitch accepted!’” Dina shook her hands in exaggeration.

Frieda pursed her lips. “You’re an ass.” Then to me. “What did he offer?”

“My choice of any treasure I wanted from his vault.”

“What’s your top pick?” Dina asked.

“I don’t know. I haven’t seen his stash yet.”

Both my sisters blinked at me. Dina said, slowly, “You accepted a job without seeing the actual payout.”

“Well, we already know I’m getting sex out of it. Plus, some kind of expensive treat? Sounds like a win to me.”

Dina shook her head. “Since when do you think with your crotch?”

“Um, have you seen my new boss?”

“His friend is cuter,” muttered Frieda, causing me and Dina to stare at her in shock.

It led to me saying, “He needs a seer to help him with something.”

The “No,” Frieda uttered came a little too fast—and pink-cheeked. Before I could ask if she’d seen something about John and her, someone knocked at the door.

I took a position with a nice line of sight, still armed with the shitty gun I’d taken off the attacker in the jungle. Dina flanked me, ready to fling magic, as John, without any kind of precaution, answered the door. A hotel worker in a bright flowered shirt stood there with a cart covered in domed dishes.

They wheeled in the cart, took the tip offered, and left just as my boss emerged fully clothed.

John headed for the coffee pot, and I couldn’t help but chirp, “Pour a plain cup for me.” John had just grabbed the urn by the handle when Frieda pounced and knocked it out of his hand.

The java spilled on the floor, and John, with a mouth open wide in shock, yelped, “What did you do that for?”

My sister bit her lip before murmuring, “It was poisoned.”

We eyed the puddle and then the food.

“All of it?” John sounded almost mournful.

Frieda took her time eyeing everything and shook her head.

John grabbed an orange. “Surely this is fine.”

“I see someone poking it with a syringe.”

The way that orange dropped and John scrubbed his hand was almost comical.

Bane growled. “I think it’s time we left.”

Frieda cleared her throat. “You should avoid the yacht.”

“Dare I ask why?”

“It’s going to sink.”

He sighed, and I frowned. “I thought these people wanted to keep you alive.
