“Who the hell are you?”

“Are you pregnant, Maya?

“Is this the bastard who knocked you up, fiancée?”

It takes every ounce of control for me to wrangle my wolf. Yelling at me is one thing. But shouting at Maya makes him feral. And me. My arm tightens around her waist as we stand in the doorway of her parents’ living room.

Maya insisted she speak with her family right away. She changed into a dress and heels Wren selected along with the other items I asked her to buy for Maya while we went to the park. Tag agreed it was better to let Wren stay busy shopping than to sit in the hotel. I expected Maya to wear them for our return trip to Miami, not to speak to her incensed family.

But here we are.

Jagger and Tag rode with us. They wait in the SUV for any word from me to come up to the apartment. Sage used her teleportation magick to reach the hotel. While we’re gone, Rust will go with her so she can erase the doctors’ minds of the hormone levels and their and my surveillance guys’ files. Dylan remains with Wren while she supervises maids to pack our things. They have our back.

Just as I have Maya’s back now. I give her a squeeze before I address her family.

“If you want to speak to Maya, you better do it with respect. I will tolerate no one hurting her, including you. Do you understand?”

Five pairs of stunned eyes stare at me.

“How dare you come into my home and—”

“I’ll cut this short. Maya is pregnant with my baby. She will return to Miami with me where we will marry. I will care for, protect, and love my family with a fierceness you cannot imagine. If you wish to be a part of her and our baby’s lives, choose your next words very carefully.”

Her father splutters while her mother gasps and clutches her pearls.

Her brothers stare—one with vehemence and the other assesses me.

The fucker’s face flames red. He stalks forward, pointing his finger.

My lip curls as my wolf snarls at the threat.

He hesitates.

“Last. Chance.”

I growl, skin itching as my wolf claws beneath its surface.

“The engagement is off,” the fucker says as he glares between Maya and me, then he turns to her father. “As is the merger.”

He storms past us. Fortunately, he has the sense to not bump into me, only to cast a last glare. I narrow my eyes in return. The front door slams shut. Maya jumps with a soft cry.

I cup her face, tilting it up to mine.

“It’s okay, my love. We’ll leave once you have your say.”

She nods as her eyes close briefly. When she reopens them, resolve glistens in their depths.

“Papá, Mamá.”

They face her with displeased expressions.

I hear her swallow and squeeze her waist to encourage her. She nods.

“I only learned I was pregnant yesterday afternoon when that photo was taken. It was not my intention for you to find out through the media. I planned to tell you today—”

“You disappoint me gravely.
