Strengthening capacities and South-South partnerships

Another interesting aspect of the UNDP strategic global plan is the strengthening of capacities and South-South cooperation. While cooperation is often thought of as aid from North to South, it is important to bear in mind the ultimate objective of cooperation, namely the reduction of poverty and the increase in autonomy of developing countries. Therefore, although North-South cooperation is needed to achieve this goal, the creation (or strengthening) of partnerships between southern countries should not be neglected. Indeed, should the positive experience of development in some of these developing countries in the South not benefit the others where progress is less pronounced today? The skills, best practices and expertise gained by some must be directly transmitted without the intervention of the UNDP or other development agency.

This strengthening in the South is part of the UNDP’s priorities but it is also a global challenge for all development agencies wishing to assist developing countries.
