Epilogue
The following morning was a little awkward for all of us, but it got better when we realized Kathryn was herself once again. The Rage virus seemed gone from her system.
We were a little subdued as we returned to Undertown. We had come close to death, and then to losing Kathryn. Emma was hovering over her sister, trying to make sure she was alright and that she didnât feel any pain or anything. Kathryn let her do it, and that she didnât snap back showed just how unsettled she was by the whole experience. She had never let Emma mother her quite like this when I was around.
The younger redhead was unable to look at me without blushing, but then I wasnât much better there myself. I could feel my face burn every time I turned her way. Our trek out of the Shade was certainly better than the one in, with less worry, but that wouldnât last.
I let my eyes fall on Madelynâs figure. The older woman knew things about me that I didnât, and I wasnât able to accept what she had told me as the full truth, not for now at least. There was more to the story, and I would find it sooner or later, no matter how much she might try to hide it.
Relief filled me when we saw the entrance of Undertown later that day, and I knew I wasnât the only one reassured. Madelyn left with barely a word after entering, taking the samples of the mushrooms with her. I knew she was running away from me, and from the conversation she imagined was coming, and I let her leave. I would have my answers eventually, and I was far too tired to try and take them out of her in that moment.
Kathryn looked at me from the corner of her eyes, blushed and said something about a shower, and I watched her move away, not certain if I should follow her or stay behind, if she wanted to talk to me or not.
Emma reached out and put one hand on my shoulder. âThank you.â Her words were full of emotion: gratefulness, care, and even a little lust; and I swallowed for a moment. I still wanted her, even after having her sister, and I couldnât hide it. She wanted me as well, and smirked softly, turning on her feet and leaving, strutting her way out and letting me see just how nice her ass was.
I swallowed and shook my head, and then wandered down to my room in Undertown. To call it a room could be a little overblown, it was a little more than a big hole in the cavernâs wall, much like everyone in Undertown possessed, bar those who had some kind of leadership role â like Madelyn â but it was mine. I laid down and tried to sleep, ignoring the dirt and grime staining my figure, but soon found myself unable to rest.
The sound of someone crawling into my space almost made me jump.
