Nineteen

Ninety days in a strange country where you know no one but your coworkers and can’t even speak the language can take its toll on a person. I understood this, but I also understood that we had a job to do. We had to get this office up and running and while my team was doing a great job, I didn’t want them to start to slack off. Time was critical and as we neared the end, I could see that look of desperation in their eyes.

I submitted paperwork to my clients, presented updated news to our customers and by noon I had figured out a way to somewhat boost morale amongst my team. We had thirty more days to complete the project for the Tokyo office and my guys had been busting their asses so far. “Since we were well ahead of schedule, I am giving the entire team the rest of the day off.” I paused as they cheered and clapped. A few “Thank you Jesus” and “Amen” bounced off the walls with exasperated excitement.

“I know you all need this. So do it, but come Monday we will all show up bright and early and be ready to continue to hit the brick hard.” I announced. I could barely get the words out before screeching chairs were being pushed backward and people where flying out of the room. They ran like they thought I would change my mind. They could rest assure that I wouldn’t; I needed this too. I only had a few more hours to spend with Ace and I just wasn’t prepared to spend any more time in this office.

My smile turned into a frown when I made it back to the room and found that Ace was missing. Her bags were packed and ready, sitting by the door. Reality was slapping me in the face. I felt like I was being water boarded, only being allowed a few gulps of air before being forcibly suffocated again. I was going to be coming home every night to an empty room and Ace was not going to be here. What could I do to make her stay? How could I convince her to stay?

I guess it was true that all good things must come to an end but this thing that I’ve found myself in with Ace wasn't just a good thing. It was a great thing. It was some kind of wonderful and my heart was hurting just thinking about spending the duration of this project all alone.

I'd done something really messed up. Something so wrong that no good was ever supposed to come from it but it did. Ace was no longer just my friend. She'd become my lover. And oh my God, what a great lover she was.

I finally understood why females fought each other over Ace and why they threw themselves at her. Mainly, it was because she was such a great lay. But it wasn't just about sex with us. We were good together.
