There are plenty of good histories of the Battle of Britain available so I’ve decided just to look at one RAF station, chosen more or less at random from the ones in the forefront of the fray. RAF Hornchurch was part of 11 Group and home to the Hornchurch sector operations room and staff, and the following squadrons during the battle (sometimes for only a few days):

65 Squadron June to August 1940

74 Squadron June to August 1940

54 Squadron April/May, June/July and August 1940 (three visits)

41 Squadron July, August and September 1940 (three visits)

92 Squadron June 1940

222 Squadron May and June 1940 and late August onwards

266 Squadron from 14 August 1940

600 Squadron late August and early September 1940

264 Squadron late August 1940

603 Squadron from 27 August 1940 onwards
