I hope I never see you again.

Pounding ripped me from my sleep. The echo bounced through my house until it interrupted my ability to spoon my mate. She stirred, but I reassured her she could go back to sleep. Between the long night and then another long mating earlier in the morning, she had to be exhausted still. I grabbed my shirt from yesterday and a pair of lounge shorts, then stalked toward the door.

"Buzz! Open the door, I don't have time for this."

What the hell? I didn't tell my clients where I lived, not to mention our meeting wasn't for hours. "What the fuck, Kyle?"

"I'm a busy male, got shifters to meet and places to be." He barged through the doorway.

"How did you find my house?" I didn't bother to close the door. He wouldn't be staying long.

Kyle spun on me, narrowing his greedy eyes on me. "Do you really think I was dumb enough to trust you completely? I'm a business male. I'd be laughed right out of my empire and fortune if I was fool enough to not have spies watching my spies."

"Our meeting isn't for another five hours." I glared at him, not caring if I pissed him off. Well, maybe a little. My mate was in the other room and I didn't want to risk her life.

"I changed my mind. Besides, you scheduled the meet for yesterday. It didn't make sense to wait until tonight. Hell, waiting until today is suspicious already. I have to make sure you're not trying to doublecross me."

Idiot. The chances I'd try some stupidity like that were Nil. I knew the reputation of both parties. The last thing I'd do was piss off both of them.

"So, was I right? Are they counterfeiting Shaabacho artifacts?"

I hoped Lia was still asleep, because if not, I had a lot of explaining to do. "Yes, they are. And the reason I waited until today to meet, is because I wanted an expert to examine it."

Kyle raised an eyebrow, then sniffed the room. I watched his eyes fade from a bright blue into a greenish yellow. Shit, the partial shift allowed his animal senses to take over. A grin crossed his face. "Ah, that's why you didn't answer your phone, getting busy with the expert." He shook his head. "It's a good thing that Tsigo legend is bullshit. I can't imagine a playboy like you settling down for a life sentence."

I cringed at his words. If he'd concentrated, he'd be able to smell past the sex to find the lingering scent of an almost mated female. I prayed to the old gods Lia still slept, because if she heard that, I'd be one crispy critter. "That's none of your business."

"Oh, don't tell me you're catching feelings for a piece of ass."

Blinding rage shot through me. I grabbed the cougar shifter and slammed him against the wall. "Don't you dare refer to her or any other female like that."

His lips pulled back into a snarl. "Don't forget who you work for.
