Step 11: Believe and Trust in Your Man of God

An integral step on your way to total-life prosperity is that you must believe and trust in your man of God— your pastor or spiritual leader. That is Step 11. Let's take a look at what the Lord has to say on this issue: "They rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper" (2 Chron. 20:20).

Your prosperity will be based in part on whether you believe and trust in your man of God. There is a great attack against you where this is concerned. The attack against you, which causes you to doubt and mistrust, in turn attacks your prosperity. Everyone reading this book has experienced someone saying something ugly about the man of God.

You may be affected by years of past offenses committed by other pastors, which may cause you to stereotype all men of God. It's almost a subconscious guilty-by-association syndrome, which allows the past to become an enemy of your present and future prosperity. Maybe you had a bad experience in a former church or a bad relationship that you failed to deal with, and you brought it along like excess baggage to your present church home. Your lack of trust for the authority of members in your former place of worship comes back and causes doubt and unbelief for your present man of God, and it hinders rather than helps your spiritual and personal progress.

I want to deal specifically with what you have heard about men of God and money in the church. Let me start by saying that I will not associate with anyone who bad-mouths my man of God, Kenneth Copeland. I won't even stay present when ugly things are being said about him, and I will voice my serious displeasure before I leave the scene.

I discuss this topic with my members because I am the man of God who concerns them the most. We're hooked up together, and rather than talk in generalities, I talk in specifics with them on this subject. I tell them that they're going to hear things said about the preacher stealing money from the church. Ironically, the more prosperous the church and the more people join, the bigger a crook other folks are going to make him out to be.

Since I don't know the particulars of your church, let me explain what happens at our ministry and relate our procedure to biblical doctrine. It is virtually impossible for me to steal money from our church. Ours is not a little church where the preacher can walk into the finance room and say, "Show me the money." It doesn't work like that. The United States government, through the Internal Revenue Service, has set up certain rules and regulations by which we are to conduct ourselves.
