Chapter forty-four

“Ivar, let me take care of you.” Goddess, save me from stubborn vampires. I’m about to pull my hair out. “You need to rest, damn it!”

“I’m fine. It would be helpful if you pulled the curtains shut, though.” He smiles at me fondly. The emotion in his eyes looks loving, but I’m terrified to even consider it. He’s said we’re blood bonds, but that doesn’t mean he’s fallen in love with me. Or that he will. Is it too much to hope true feelings will grow from the seeds of the bond? I already feel like I’m well on the way to being in love with them.

Shaking myself out of my spiraling thoughts, I move around the library and pull the curtains closed. Ivar doesn’t ask for much, so I intend to make sure that he gets what he does ask for. Coming back around to his chair, I drop to my knees between his feet. “Do you need to feed?”

He lets out a frustrated sigh. “I don’t want any of you to feel obligated to let me feed.”

Raising an eyebrow at him, I grin. “Who said we feel obligated? I for one want to take care of my mate in any way I can.” Leaning into him, I brush my lips across his, back and forth. Teasing caresses that make him growl with desire. “Don’t you want to feed so you have the energy to do more than growl at me?”

He blinks in shock before throwing his head back to laugh. “So that’s how this is going to work? You will tease me into sexual frustration until I feed from you?”

Casually, I shrug my shoulders. “Seems like a win-win for me, so why not?”

The door opens behind me, catching my attention. Becca bursts out of my bedroom dressed in her unicorn onesie. The surprising part is the giant oversized hoodie that Roux is wearing, paired with a pair of fuzzy pajama pants that look as if they were designed to match Becca’s outfit. Together they run toward us, both grinning with mischief that’s more suited to toddlers than adults.

Ivar chuckles in delight. “Well, Sam, it looks like you need to get with the program and find something to match.”

“I already got the horn, mine's just lower than theirs.” My muttered words weren’t intended to be heard, but I forget how superior Ivar’s senses are. He struggles to turn his laughter into a cough as Becca and Roux come to a stop beside his chair.

“It looks like you two had fun while shopping.” I can’t help the smile that comes to my face when I see how happy Roux is. He’s come so far in such a short amount of time.

He grips the hem of his hoodie, holding it out toward me. “It’s soooooooo soft.” Lifting the hem further, he rubs the inner sherpa layer against his cheek. “I never knew anything could feel this cozy.”

I can hear him talking, but my brain short circuited when he flashes his flat stomach and V lines at me.
