Just Be You
Your home reflects you. Looking on Pinterest is great for ideas, but don’t get dragged down by your lack of ability to make your room look like that blogger’s. If you aren’t as creative with furniture arranging, ask a friend to come over and help. Trade her for something you’re good at, and don’t tell me you have nothing to offer her. There’s always a way to bless someone. Offer to babysit her kids for the afternoon or make their dinner. If someone offered to trade me coming to their house to help them decorate in exchange for them organizing my receipts for the past month, I would jump on it!
Your home doesn’t have to be a designer showcase to reflect your personality. In fact, it can’t! That just reflects the designer who picked out all the furniture and ordered the drapes. Instead, let your home be a reflection of the Designer, the One who made you and gave you this place to live. While you’re deciding how to get your home in balance, when to clean, what color to paint, where to put the kids’ artwork, and whether to keep that kitchen gadget you wanted so badly but have never used, stop and think about what is honoring to God. Could someone else use that gadget more? Do the kids really need all their toys? Is there a paint color that makes you feel at peace? Could cleaning the house become an act of worship?
I am excited for you to take these steps toward finding balance in your mansion. I have so much faith in you!
Assignment
Think of five things you do well around your house. Even if it’s something small, such as “I am great at replacing the toilet paper roll.” Write down those five things and stick the list to your mirror or wherever you put inspiration (if you don’t have a place, find one; I use the back of my closet door). Now each day when you see the list, thank God for those gifts. Each of those is one area where you shine, and I can promise you there are people who struggle with it. Gratitude is a game changer when you’re trying to find balance.
