Our daily life is regulated by the seven-day week—an odd number that fits neither our decimal (= ‘Base ten’, as the number of our digits in two hands) system, nor the Sumerian sexagecimal (= ‘Base Sixty’) system that we continue to use in geometry, astronomy, and timekeeping.
