I glanced out the living room window, trying to see Wyatt in the darkness, but my eyes weren’t like a werewolf’s. I couldn’t see him hiding in the shadows of the streets, but I knew he was there. All I had to do was keep a line of magic around the house. If he advanced, I would know. I would alert Luana and we would run.

Or fight.

But it had been hours since Wyatt first arrived, and he hadn’t done anything. Luana and I had been at a loss why he was here. To attack us? Then why was he standing across the street like a freaking creeper? He could break through the door or the window and come at us.

At some point, Luana had tried going outside to talk to him, but he snarled at her. And when I got closer to try and break the spell over him, Wyatt ran. A few minutes later, he came back, howling and snarling at us.

What was the point in this? Had he been following us since we left Dark Witch Manor? Had Isalia sent him to check on us? Was he like a beacon that would bring the evil she-wolf to us? If that was the plan, then why wasn’t she and her wolves and Soren and his warlocks here already?

After a couple of hours of this senseless game, I insisted Luana go to bed. She finally conceded after I agreed we could take turns through the night.

At first, I was fine, but now, sleep was getting to me. Before I ended up dozing off by the window, I went to the kitchen and drank a full glass of cold water. That ought to help with the sleepiness.

On my way back to the living room, I glanced at the dining table, where Luana had told me about the mating bond and I had confessed my love for her.

When she went to bed earlier, I could still see she was worried about the bond, even though I had told her I wasn’t.

And I really wasn’t. It was a surprise, yes, but honestly, it shouldn’t have been. There was no other woman I wanted to spend time with, to talk to, to kiss, or to make love to. There was no other woman who made me feel this will to live, to fight, and this deep desire that I thought I would never experience.

To me, there was Luana. Only Luana.

With my heart full, I dragged a chair to the window and sat down, my gaze trained on the dark street, where Wyatt was hiding.
