Frequency: The American College of Sports Medicine recommends that resistance training be performed at least two times a week and should include all major muscle groups.[14] This means that you need to put your muscles and bones under stress, or overload, by using added weights at least twice a week.

Time: While resistance training is necessary, especially when working to lose weight but not muscle mass, it should take no longer than twenty to forty minutes. Unless you are planning on competing for the next Mr. or Ms. Olympia title, you should not have to spend all day throwing weights around.
