Over the years, Sardis had never experienced anything like it. First in the hot tub, then the shower, and finally in the bed. Now, she lay sleeping in his arms, the both of them naked, covered by a blue cotton sheet, the reflection of the water from the hot tub shimmering on the ceiling, making it appear as though they were living in the water. And next to the bed, music played of the sea lapping at the shore, of seagulls calling to their mates, of whales singing their music. He’d even managed to sleep a few hours, lulled to sleep by the woman and her habitat.

He took a deep breath of the lilac soap she’d bathed them in and caressed her arm, her skin silky soft. The seductress had attempted to lure him into biting her, and he nearly did, pricked the skin of her breast and licked the drops even, but stopped before he went any further. No way was he getting in any deeper with the woman until she agreed to stay with him. He promised her frequent trips back to her home, a visit to her friend’s apartment once a year, what more could she ask for?

Having forgotten he’d left his cell phone at his rental condo when he had initially left the place to rescue her from the thugs in the parking lot, he ran his hands through her silky hair, not wanting to leave her for any length of time. But he needed to check in with his people. Clan obligations were always there, even if he wasn’t physically with his people.

Slipping out from under her, Sardis headed for the kitchen and saw a phone on the counter. Her answering machine was flashing, and he had the worst urge to find out who had called and left her messages when she had been away. She said she had friends, and he shouldn’t have minded that, but still…

Fighting the instinct to check her messages, he grabbed the phone and called his brother. “Basil, is anything going on that I should know about?”

“Sardis? Where are you calling from? The number was unknown and I almost didn’t pick up. Figured it was one of those damned telemarketers. You’re supposed to be enjoying your vacation. Remember? I’m supposed to call you if there’s an emergency? That’s the deal.”

“I left my cell phone back at the condo and…”

“Do you want some coffee? Or maybe tea?” Tristina asked, walking into the kitchen with a silky robe that screened her treasures but made them all the more provocative.

“Who the hell is that?” his brother asked, sounding as if he wanted to climb through the phone to check her out.

“I was just checking in. If there’s nothing going on that I need to know about…just reach me at this number. It might be a while before I return to the condo.” He glanced at Tristina, and she pushed her golden hair away from her cheek and smiled like a bright sunshiny day.

Waking up to her every day would surely make the years so much more satisfying.
