Youâve probably heard the expression âexpletive deleted,â meaning that a blasphemous or obscene interjection has been censored. In fact, the word expletive can be used to mean âinterjection.â It also refers to terms that are inserted into a sentence for rhythmic or syntactical reasons, such as the word it in the sentence âIt looks like rain,â or the word there in the sentence, âThere seems to be a problem.â
The Least You Need to Know â Noun determiners indicate that a noun is to follow, and include the indefinite articles a and an and the definite article the.
â A preposition is a word that links its object to other parts of the sentence.
â Conjunctions are words that relate parts of a sentence to one another. Coordinating conjunctions relate parts that are grammatically similar. Subordinating conjunctions relate parts that are grammatically dissimilar.
â Interjections are sounds, words, phrases, or whole sentences inserted as exclamations.
