Two hours after talking to Carla about Calvin and I was still heated. I couldn’t believe he tried to threaten me and my family. Now I wished I had taken him out when I had the chance.

After talking to the guys about going out, they agreed to have a small get-together at the house. They also informed the girls, which they agreed. Whether we go out or have a party at the house, we were going to have fun. We always do.

I wanted to bring Thomas, but since Jennifer is having a fit about everything lately she decided to keep him with her. Since our altercation, things between us have been strained. When we’re around Thomas, we’ll act normal but when it’s just us we barely communicate. I stay in the den and leave early for work to avoid seeing her. I tried to make things work between us but after what she pulled I can’t do it anymore. I even went as far as talking to a divorce lawyer about my options. Since one of my co-workers is married to one, I met up with him and he went over everything I would need to do.

There is one thing he mentioned, and that was not to engage in any affairs while I’m still married. Since Jennifer is so hell-bent on claiming I’m cheating on her with Carla, I could jeopardize myself if I did, but that was the furthest thing from my mind when I was with her earlier. There were times I fantasized about us being together. Don’t get me wrong, I used to love making love to my wife, but with Carla there was something about her that made me go crazy for her. There were a lot of times we almost went there in our relationship but we didn’t want to lose our friendship. But damn, I wanted so fucking badly for just one moment to kiss those lips of hers and to lose myself inside of her.

After making a few last-minute calls for work, I got everything together for our barbecue. I was seasoning the meat while Carla was getting things for her potato salad. I used to remember when I went with her to visit her aunt and she would have barbecues and she would make her famous salad. That used to have me hooked.

She looked over and gave a sweet smile, which made me give one in return. Now that I think about it, I should have pursued something with Carla. My life would have been a lot better. The one thing I don’t regret is Thomas. I love him to death, it’s his mother I can’t stand. But as my grandmother used to say, choose carefully who you lay down with.

Shawn walked into the kitchen and grabbed some things to put on the grill. He looked from me to Carla and shook his head.

“Kev, can you help me with these please?”

I nodded and followed him out to the patio. Once he closed the door, he shook his head again.
