Creating products that your ideal prospect wants

Now that you’ve researched your ideal prospects and you’re hanging out with them, you should be observing the type of language they’re using to describe what’s going on in their lives. You should be zeroing in on what their pain points are and what they are missing from the market. This intersection is the place from which you want to build your solution for them.

Continuing with the professional editor as our example, let’s say she learns that the aspiring writers are expressing frustration that they lack the financial capacity to pay the typical $1,000 price tag for full developmental editing services. Maybe some are indicating that they want just copy editing, a more economical approach that gives them confidence that the end product will not have a lot of bad grammar and typos. Perhaps there are a good number of folks who are on their second book, and they self-edited the first and now realize that it was not a good idea.

To design products attractive to any of these authors, she would want to start categorizing the pain points she’s discovered and crafting the intersecting benefits of her solution to remedy those pain points.

Depending on her goals and where she is in her business, it may be more important to her to have quality over quantity with clients. Perhaps she’s a one-woman show, and only wants to do high-ticket projects.

Or, perhaps you need to increase revenue to your business and are not at the point where she can turn down proofread level work. One option would be to hire an affordable virtual assistant in your business to quickly handle simple jobs like this allowing her to provide a professional review with greater ease. The client benefits because the work is economically priced to suit them, high level, and more quickly completed because of the two-person review.

When constructing attractive products, you need to be able to express the benefits of transformation and results that your clients want. As you construct the message, your main goal should be to feed into their psyche that your solution will give them relief from a pain point or aid them in reaching the desired status. Once you reach this nirvana, selling becomes superfluous.

Once these clients become your raving fans, you can look at business growth opportunities expanding from editing to full support of the aspiring author who wants an author’s career. This is where you plan out which of the product vehicles we discussed earlier would work for your lifestyle and personality while delivering the information or service to the client.

You’d have the option to develop information products and an online course that moves the client from a one-off book to that of a prolific author’s career. You could add a membership site and then a mastermind group where you’re working with them monthly on mindset exercises and scheduling, holding them accountable for production. Each of these products has a market value and can add significantly to your business’s bottom line.
