In this case, it is left entirely to the reader to infer the hierarchical relations among the elements of the argument. In another context (for example in a spoken discourse) we might supply further information about such relations by explicit lexical stipulation, e.g. by saying such things as “That takes care of the goose sauce; now for the gander,” or more simply still, by the use of various lexical conjunctions. In a written (running) text, however, we have also available the option of using the hierarchical categories made available by the text-grammar, say by inscribing the lexical sentences that describe operations as text-sentences, and grouping together in separate paragraphs descriptions of operations that constitute a single sub-procedure, as in:
