I stepped outside the room and immediately turned left. The hallway was the same as the others: beautiful and empty. Besides the bedroom, which was furnished to the nines, there was almost nothing in the entire castle except the bare minimum. It didn't make sense, but I wasn't getting any answers from my captor, so I was left to explore.

After a certain point, other doors littered the hallway. I opened the first one and found a massive room. The floor was sparkling marble, the ceilings were gold and ornate, there were massive bay windows… and absolutely nothing else.

I sighed and shut the door, moving to the next one, which was much the same. Pretty floor, pretty ceiling, pretty windows. That was it. Much to my dismay, and my boredom, the other three doors in the hallway were also like that.

Did he always live like this? If I lived in a castle alone by myself, I'd want it as full and busy as possible to try and keep me entertained and my mind occupied. He clearly didn't see it that way. He had a fully furnished bedroom, which… come to think of it, was odd because he didn't sleep. Then there was the stocked kitchen, even though he didn't eat. There was also the throne room, which was as stark as the rest of the rooms.

Still, I kept going. I found what was clearly a gorgeous, massive, and empty ballroom. I found a second kitchen, one that was smaller and bare. There was a sun room without a single thing in it except for floor-to-ceiling windows. There were empty closets, bathrooms… Hell, there was even a room that looked like a chapel. It had ornate windows, a peaked ceiling, a raised dais at the front of the room, and stone floors. There was plenty of room for pews and seating, but of course, there was none.

I left the chapel and sighed. Across the hall, there was an alcove separated by a door frame. Likely another empty space, but I had nothing to do besides look, so I walked across the hall and stepped into the alcove. As soon as I did, I froze in place.

A front door. Well, front doors.

I’d had yet to see a proper castle entrance during my exploring, and I'd been wondering if the place just didn't have one. I have never been so happy to be wrong.

I rushed over to the massive double doors and grabbed the handles, tugging hard. Nothing. The doors didn't budge or even creak. Hm. I tried pushing as well. Again, nothing. Damn! Were they locked? Or just ungodly heavy?

I pushed again, putting all my weight on the center between the doors. When that didn't work, I pulled again, using all my strength. It amounted to jack shit. I continued those efforts for somewhere close to five minutes before I managed to simply piss myself off and make myself sweaty.

"Dammit," I hissed, kicking the door as hard as I could. As soon as I did, I gasped and grabbed my foot, leaning against the door for support.
