Decide where you want to work. If you want to start a tech firm in Silicon Valley, move to Silicon Valley. If you want to start a restaurant chain, get a job working in restaurants. Whatever interests you, go and do it, or get as close to it as you possibly can. Not only will you learn a lot about a particular business or industry, you will also increase your chances of meeting your future cofounders and team members. And if you’ve worked with someone before, there’s a much better chance that you’ll know whether he or she is a likely business partner or employee.
