Hank read Alice’s text, feeling the message ripple through his entire body. She had her test result back. Negative.

He let out an uncharacteristic whoop, although maybe he should have uttered a yawp since Alice was big on them. Vinnie looked over from shining the cocktail shaker. “What?”

“She’s negative.”

Vinnie did a little dance. “Awesome! You meeting up now or later? You better tell me now because I’ll have to kick you in the behind otherwise. Why wait to kiss your girl?”

His pulse pounded. Kissing her was all he could think about lately—plus a whole lot more. “It’s the middle of the day, Vinnie. Maybe I should make her dinner.” Surely he could wait three or four hours.

Vinnie’s thick black brows shot to his hairline, and he thunked the shaker on the bar. “You’ve been making each other dinner every night since you first went out. It’s time to make l’amour, my friend, not steaks. Get the hell out of here. Marty and I can handle the dinner crowd.”

Yeah, they averaged about six tables total on a Tuesday night. He didn’t want to argue, so he didn’t. “All right. I’m outta here.”

He texted Alice.
