Acidification is the process of increasing the acidity or pH balance of an environment [13, 14]. This occurs through the direct release of acids (such as nitric acid or sulfuric acid) into an environment or through the release of certain chemicals into the air or water that results in a chemical reaction increasing the acidity of soil or water. The chemicals and reactions most often associated with acidification are:Sulfur oxides (SOx)

Nitrous oxides (NOx)

Ammonia (NH3)

Carbon dioxide (CO2)
