Goodness!

Catherine was amazed by her own audacity.

She was more astonished by that kiss. How could the meeting of two mouths be so very beguiling? How could that touch set her simmering from head to toe, push every sensible thought from her mind, and tempt her to forget her obligations for the morning? It was a marvel, to be sure.

And she, so known for her reserve, had visited her husband while he was in his bath. He had been nude, although a great deal of his nudity had been hidden by the water, at least at first.

She had kissed him of her own volition.

She had looked upon him—well, just a little.

Despite the overwhelming satisfaction of the situation, she had followed the given counsel and denied him more than a short kiss.

She had also contrived a falsehood about Eurydice to explain her uncharacteristic choices.

There was yet more. The night before, she had deliberately dressed to entice her lord husband. She had been coquettish with their host, whose easy manner had made it simple for her to do so. She had been aware of Rhys’ hungry gaze upon her and she had provoked his interest apurpose.

Truly, Catherine became a different woman at Rockmorton Manor. She might not have recognized her sensible self in these choices.

The most remarkable detail of all, however, was how much she liked the change. Sadly, there were no additional pages of the mysterious book to advise her.

Yet.
