Chapter 6
Deonne
The day was going by quickly. There wasn’t much talk going on in the shop. I was in a much better mood since I didn’t have to look at Livia all day. Aaliyah had gone home after she finished her last clients head. It was approaching 4pm and I had just sat one of my clients under the dryer and finished up another.
Danielle walked into my shop. I was surprised to see my little sister. I hadn’t seen her in over a month and it looked as if she had grew a few inches.
“Hey Nelly. What are you doing here?” I asked her. Nelly was the nickname I had given her.
“Mom dropped me off and asked if you would keep me until she finished up running a few errands.” Danielle replied. I hugged my sister but was furious with my mother for dropping my sister off without calling me first.
“Where is mom?” I questioned.
“She left after she made sure that I came straight inside.” Danielle mentioned.
“How does she drop you off and not even come inside to see if I’m here or not.” I was definitely going to give my mother a piece of my mind when I spoke to her. “Did you do your homework yet?” I asked Nelly.
“No. I guess I’ll start on it now.” Danielle replied as she walked to the back of my shop toward my office to do her work. I followed behind her to make sure that everything was ok.
“Are you okay Nelly?” I asked.
“Why can’t I come live with you Dee? I hate being left alone all the time. The only reason mom bought me here today is because I begged her to. Usually, she just drops me home and go about her business.” Nelly explained.
“Where’s your father?” This was news to my ears because my mother made it seem like her world revolved around Nelly.
“My dad moved out two months ago. She didn’t want me to say anything to you about it. Mr. Watts came over to visit a few times but asked me not to tell you. Mom said that I would get a whipping if I did.” Nelly revealed. I was in shock. I couldn’t believe that my father had been seeing my mom after what she had done to him.
“I’m not going to say anything baby girl. I’ll see what I can do about having you come here every day after school. I’ll call and order you some food as soon as I’m done with my customer. Do your homework and I’ll be back to check on you in a few minutes.” I said as I exited the office. I pulled out my cell phone and dialed my mother’s number which went straight to voice mail. I definitely had a bone to pick with her.
I checked my client and felt to see if her hair was dry enough. I was anxious to get done so I could talk with my little sister for a while. I turned the dryer off and instructed my client to sit in my chair.
