On 16 June at 1530hrs General Franke sent an emissary to the burned-out Hirps Farm north of PO Aumetz. Commandant Vanier of Bréhain was notified and sent a few men to meet with the Germans. A message was handed to Lt Dars, commander of Casemate du Réservoir, which he took to Commandant Vanier. The memo outlined the strategic and tactical situation and suggested the ouvrages be evacuated. Vanier was given three hours to respond. That same evening General Wilck’s 161 ID was marching around 183 ID to move up behind SF Crusnes.
