CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

SARA FELT LIKE SHE was in a movie.

Michael’s home was huge and luxurious. The luscious contemporary vibe was totally her style. It was filled with stylish yet comfortable furniture and what appeared to be dozens and dozens of cushions, mirrors, large paintings, statues, jugs, and other décor. The mix of modern and ancient was a delight.

In short, she loved it.

Tilly had curled up on the thick comforter on the bed after a short adventure in the garden.

After pouring herself a large glass of water, Sara had returned to the wardrobe to play. Finding a white lacy balconette bra and matching panties set, she dressed in a white cotton dress with cap sleeves. The square neckline and tight bodice accentuated her breasts and waistline, then fell in layers down to her calves. Adding a pair of sandals, she sat down at the dresser and added some lip gloss.

Michael walked in and leaned against the doorframe, his huge build taking up the entire space. She stared at him in the mirror, neither of them saying anything.

She smiled.

Some days the heat that sizzled between them felt normal, and other days it took her breath away. She stood and walked into his arms.

“Shit. You look so damn beautiful.”

Oh.

It wasn’t like Michael never complimented her. He did. Daily. But the way he had looked at her and spoken so breathlessly took her own breath away. This man loved and adored her.

She let that sink in.

“Thank you.”

“I love you, Sara.”

“I love you too,” she whispered back.

His lips lowered to hers, softly, then more firmly. Then more firmly. He pulled her hard against his body as his tongue plunged inside. She groaned at the intensity of his desire for her.

Too soon, he released her, and they stood gazing into each other’s eyes.

“You ready to meet my Father?” he asked eventually.

Her mouth fell open.

You what?

“I’m sorry, what?”

“You have nothing to fear. He’s...” Michael tilted his head. “Well, he’s God.”

Sara stepped out of his arms. “Yes, but generally, one doesn’t meet him until they die. Wait, I’m not dead, right?”

Smiling, he shook his head.

“No, but we shouldn’t keep him waiting any longer so that remains the status quo.” He laughed, but her horrified expression made his smile disappear. “Sorry, insider joke. He won’t harm you. I promise.”

“Michael!” she growled, slapping his arm.

“Come on, beautiful.” Michael threw an arm around her and led her out of his chambers and down a polished marble path.

Eventually, they came to an open space which reminded her of a tropical resort. Large palm trees were scattered around a big lawn, with pathways weaving through it. There were half a dozen park benches and trees with oversized plumeria-looking flowers bursting through the abundance of green leaves.

Animals and birds flittered around, giving it a springlike feel which matched the clear blue sky. It was sunny, but she could see no sun. Not a cloud to be seen. So much for heavenly clouds.

Up ahead, Sara saw buildings which looked like they were made from marble and clay.
