Chapter 11 - Holly

The following day, Holly stumbled into the bar, her mind in complete chaos. She was too preoccupied to focus on her shift. The previous night with Ram had left her more confused than ever. The line between desire and duty had blurred, and now, everything would be so much more complicated.

As she went about her tasks, she cursed under her breath, berating herself for her choices. A whirlwind of emotions—betrayal, lust, and love—had taken control of her, leaving her struggling to make sense of it all. The night had slipped away from her, and in the heat of the moment, the animalistic charge that had permeated the atmosphere during the hunt had gotten the better of her, and she’d given in to her attraction for Ram.

She’d avoided him all morning, but they needed to talk about the state of things. It wasn’t fair to let him assume that because they’d slept together that she was going to go through with the wedding. There was much more to this situation than the chemistry between them, no matter how undeniable it was.

She groaned inwardly and moved to clear a high top, hoping that tending bar would give her the distraction she needed. The conversation and laughter in the bar sounded distant, muffled by her internal turmoil. As she worked, she felt as if she was in a haze, disconnected from reality. How could she have let herself be swayed by her desires, disregarding the consequences it would bring? The boundaries she had meticulously maintained had crumbled, and now she found herself entangled in a web she wasn't sure she could escape.

Amid the cacophony of her thoughts, a shifter from Ram's pack approached her with an exaggerated swagger. He held up his empty bottle and wiggled it, clearly having consumed one too many.

"Hey, pretty thing," he slurred, his words barely coherent. "How about another one?" He hiccupped, his breath reeking of stale hops.

Holly took a deep breath, trying to maintain her composure, and forced a polite smile. "Sorry, but I think you've had enough. I'm going to have to cut you off."

He scoffed, his drunken confidence evident. "I'll tell you when I've had enough," he retorted dismissively.

"I understand you may not agree, but it's for your own safety. I won't be able to serve you any more alcohol tonight."

The shifter's eyes narrowed, and a flicker of anger crossed his face. He leaned in closer, invading her personal space. "Look at the new girl flexing her muscles. You don't know who you're dealing with, little bird."

Holly held her ground, refusing to back down. "I'm just doing my job. I suggest you take a moment to calm down."

His grip tightened on the empty bottle. "Oh, I'm calm. When I'm not, you'll know it."

She pressed her lips together, holding back the barrage of insults that threatened to spill out. "What's your name?" she asked, tossing a towel over her shoulder.

"Dwight," he answered. "Why?"

"I don't remember seeing you at the hunt last night," she remarked, attempting to steer the conversation away from confrontation.
