THE UNIQUENESS OF JEWISH CULTURE

We need to spend some time thinking about the Jews as a people. There are no people on earth like the Jews. They owe their existence for millennia up to the present to God alone and to the truth that God gave to them in their history and in their laws, which have been incorporated into a book. The highest iteration of God that has ever been given to humanity is in the Old Testament. And the New Testament, once you understand the Old, is simply a natural consequence.

Compare Psalm 23 to all other religious literature. You will see that it is not something that could have been made up. It is too strange to have been made up. And if you look at all the theories of the origin of religions with people like the philosopher David Hume or the psychologist Sigmund Freud, you won’t find anything that accounts for the content of the Old Testament as expressed at its highest in Psalm 23. You won’t find anything. Read Buddhist literature, read Hindu literature. Don’t talk about them, read them. A lot of people read a verse or two, a passage or two, a sermon here or there from one of the other religions and assume that it fully represents that religion. No, read the whole thing and then compare them. You are going to find that there is no possibility of explaining the origination of the revelation and the teaching of the Jewish religion by natural principles.
