Chapter Seventeen

“What do you want to do today?” I asked Olivia a few days after our first night together. It was the morning after another night spent unable to get enough of each other. I was lying behind her, spooning her, but when I spoke up, she turned around in my embrace.

I gazed into her blue eyes, the rays of sunlight falling through the window making her hair glow. It wasn’t just her hair that was glowing though. She was beaming with happiness, giving me a bright smile.

I was glad I was able to make Olivia so overjoyed. It filled my heart with pride to be the source of her happiness.

“How about we go for another walk around town?” She put a hand on my cheek and caressed me.

I leaned into the touch, closing my eyes to be able to focus on it more. Yesterday we had gone on a sightseeing tour and she had shown me the most important places in town, but rain started to fall while we were in the middle of looking at everything. We ran back home, only to end up tangled in each other. Pleasuring each other hadn’t been a bad way to spend the time instead, but I wanted to do more with Olivia than just have sex with her.

I wanted to be a constant presence in her life, to do as many things together as we could. That was why when I opened my eyes again, I smiled along with her and shared my idea. “Yesterday we saw that local bookstore across the street but didn’t go in because we had to stop our sightseeing tour.”

“A bookstore? Ah, ‘Froster’s Book Store’, right?” Olivia tried her best to focus on the thought while I leaned down to kiss her temple.

“Isn’t that the only book shop in town?” I chuckled.

“Well, yes and no. There’s also an antique shop that sells books, but they don’t have a great selection of thrillers.” Olivia pushed on my chest gently to make me pull away from her. I abided by her wish, though not without some regret.

“I want to see if the new Jean Parker book is available yet,” I said.

Olivia’s eyes brightened like two stars. “Ah, The Road in the Rain? Yes, I want to read that too!”

“We can read it together after we buy a copy,” I gave her a wide smile.

“Yes! Let’s do that!” Olivia almost jumped up, she was so excited. “Let’s go now!”

I laughed, and we got up and got dressed.

Ten minutes later we stood in front of a shop with many colorful books on display. The recent bestselling romance and fantasy novels took the most prominent spots in one window, while non-fiction and thrillers stood centerstage in the other.

“I see it!” Olivia turned to me, as excited as a child right before getting their next favorite toy. “Look!”

She pointed to the left window, and she was right – The Road in the Rain stood there fresh and proud, ready for an interested reader to buy.
