Chapter Nine
Seth hadnât been lying when he said the surprises were just beginning. They pulled up to the Springs and Cynthia knew right away they were going to be eating at the Stillwater. Except when he led them into the hotel, instead of turning down the corridor to the Stillwater, he turned the other way.
âAre we going to eat? Because you know, a hungry pregnant woman is not a pretty sight.â
He smiled down at her. âI donât knowâI think this hungry pregnant woman is a very pretty sight.â He tucked a piece of hair behind her ear in a move that was very intimate and one Cynthia would normally pull away from. But things were different between them now in a way she couldnât quite put her finger on. âAnd yes,â he continued. âWeâre going to eat.â
âBut the restaurant is the other way.â She half spun to point in the opposite direction, but he gently spun her around and continued to walk away from the Stillwater.
âI know exactly where it is,â Seth said with a devilish grin. âWho said we were going to be eating in the restaurant?â
She shut up then and kept walking with him. She hadnât spent a great deal of time in the Springs, mostly because sheâd been too busy to join the girls when theyâd done ladiesâ days at the spa. But she knew where the pools were, because sheâlike almost everyone whoâd ever seen itâcould never forget it. The corridor opened up on a floor-to-ceiling vaulted wall of glass that enclosed the pools. Inside there was a variety of pools, both large for all hotel guests, and small private ones.
Seth led her up to the glass wall, and then over to the sliding doors that opened into the pools. Together they walked past the attendants at the desk whoâd clearly been expecting them, with a nod and smile. She looked around and took everything in. People lounged in the healing hot spring water, or swam laps in the cooler poolâthose were the main pools. Little paths branched off the main walkway, which Cynthia assumed led to the private pools, but they were secluded with trees, boulders, and plants, so she couldnât see beyond the entrances.
âThis is us.â Sethâs voice broke her out of her private thoughts and she looked to see that theyâd stopped in front of one of those private pathways.
âWeâre going swimming?â
He laughed. âCome on.â
The path was narrow so he gestured for her to walk ahead of him, which she did. It didnât take her long to make her way along the stones and into the opening. When she did, she stopped short and put her hand to her mouth. âOh.â Tears sprung to her eyes and she turned around to see Seth behind her with a single white rose in his hand. âYou did all this?â
âFor you.â
She took the rose and turned around again to take it all in.
They were indeed at a private pool, with a bubbling waterfall tucked at one end.
