Tasha had gone upstairs while Sam, Kelly, and Laura stayed downstairs to watch a movie.

“Baby, I want a new car,” Kelly said to Sam.

“Damn, that came out of nowhere. What’s wrong with the Jetta I bought you?”

“It’s a Jetta. Maria got a seven sixty.”

“So what that mean? If the state was for sale, Prince would buy her that too. I ain’t Prince.”

“I know. You just wish you could be,” Kelly said, folding her arms in disgust.

“Naw, bitch.” Sam was hot. “I’m cool with being Sam. If you really took the time to know me then you could get what Maria has, but you ain’t Maria. If Prince was dead broke and stinking, she would clean his ass up and do whatever to make him the best. See, you want to be her and that’s the real problem.” Sam continued, “They been together since they were seven. I been with you what, six, seven months? She don’t ask for shit and all you want is more and more. Fuck that.”

Laura just sat there looking at the movie like she ain’t heard shit.

“I do know you. I know I have to push you to be what you can be. You are a leader, baby, but if you don’t get out of Prince’s shadow, you’ll never be anything but a follower,” Kelly said calmly.

Sam was thinking bout what Kelly said when Laura spoke up.

“Where were you when he was ten living with nothing? Where were you when his Mom had to strip to pay the bills? Where were you when his father left and continued to ruin his life? I don’t know where you were, but Prince was right by his side. When he didn’t have a video game and everyone else did, Prince gave him one. When his father got him caught up, who fixed it? Prince. Even now, when you said Sam should have his own shit and tried to get between them, it was Prince who didn’t say anything and just gave Sam the block.” Laura continued, “That’s what he is trying to tell you, Kelly. He doesn’t want to be Prince. He doesn’t want to owe Prince. They’re real friends and you need to stop trying to ruin that before you lose him.

Kelly jumped up, “Bitch, who the fuck is you to tell me about my man?”

“I am the one who just told you about your man,” Laura said, standing face to face with Kelly.

Kelly was hot and knew Laura had actually done just that. “I ain’t gonna fuck up this weekend arguing with this white bitch. I’ll deal with your little ass later.”

Before Laura could respond Kelly stormed off. Kelly rushed upstairs, mumbling cuss words to herself as she passed the others coming in from the hot tub.

“Oh shit, what’s that all about?” Shay said to Maria.

They ran down to the movie room expecting to see it tore up, but it was just the opposite. Laura and Sam were kicked back watching the movie.

“What happened? Why is Kelly so pissed off?” Shay asked.
