Chapter 15

Millonia worked in the garden with a new outlook on life that morning.

Yes, she was very relaxed from her amazing orgasm the night before and energized from her morning kiss with Sigma. Also, for the first time in her life, she desired the company of another living being in a permanent capacity, which was mind-blowing.

Even now, with her lips still wet and swollen from kissing him, Millonia wanted…

What did she want?

She wanted to slip her hands under his shirt, feel his skin. She wanted Sigma to do the same to her. His hands on her breasts the night before had been amazing.

Whatever she wanted, she knew it was deliciously more.

“Good morning, Millonia!” Devin called, waving as she walked past carrying two baskets.

“Good morning!”

“Cheese delivery!” She lifted the basket up. “What’s coming out of the garden today?”

“Still a lot of greens and radishes. We got a few stalks of rhubarb yesterday, but your mom used it to make something for Gathric.”

“More likely for Rava,” Devin laughed. “My mom loves that woman. I mean, she’s given her five grandchildren and there’s another one on the way.” Devin rolled her eyes. “My mom loves a grandchild. If Bicki wasn’t such a handful, I’d be working on another one!” She waved and went on her way.

Millonia turned to the packet of squash seeds Lindin had given her. She organized them into groups of three, then set to creating little hills in the area Lindin had told her to plant them.

Millonia laughed to herself. Planting seeds? She never stuck around anywhere long enough to watch a seed grow into a plant. Yet, here she was, planting squash. A vegetable that took one hundred days to fruit. And kept right through winter.

She would be here…in winter? And not against her will? It was almost hilarious if it weren’t so terribly depressing. Millonia had been living on the run and then in a dungeon all of her life. She hadn’t had a bonfire with a parent like Tella. Or a sister like Vallie. There was never a person who was home to her.

But now, she had been enveloped into a family. A family that had a mate and parental figures and siblings—some of them annoying—and nieces and nephews and homes and shared meals and…

Millonia didn’t know what she was feeling, but it felt like relief. As if after a lifetime of terror and constant moving, she could be still, and nothing terrible would happen from that stillness.

Sigma had given her a place to feel safe. And that was worth more than any orgasm or kiss or house he built with his bare hands. It was the greatest gift in the world.

She had been so afraid of belonging to a wolf and now she cherished it. It meant she finally belonged somewhere. She finally had a home.

With dirt under her fingernails and joy in her heart, Millonia finished for the day. The world looked brighter. Her lunch with Sigma was wonderful, even if Andren never gave them a moment alone.
