Janet and Stewart Farrar

The issue of how much authentic Wiccan information could be presented to the public also dogged the magical careers of Janet and Stewart Farrar, both of whom had been initiated in Alex Sanders’s coven.105 By the late 1970s, the Farrars had assumed a leading role in London’s occult community, and they wrote several major works on neopaganism, including Eight Sabbats for Witches (1981), The Witches’ Way (1984), The Witches’ Goddess (1987), and The Witches’ God (1989)—all published in the United States as well as in Britain. As a result, the Farrars strongly influenced neopagan thought and practice on both sides of the Atlantic. The rituals, spellcraft, and conjurations described in their books, which cumulatively present a working guide to practical witchcraft, provide the sort of information Patricia Crowther believes should remain restricted to the inner circle.
