Mississippi Riverfront, New Orleans

September 15, 1804. From the doorway overlooking the riverfront, a voodoo priestess stood watching the sailors load the last of the supplies into the hull of the slave ship and prepare for launch. Busy with their tasks, none of them saw a shadow slip up the gangplank and disappear into the hold. The priestess smiled grimly. This was one ship that would not return to New Orleans with its cargo of despair. As the sailors cast off from the dock, she turned her back on the scene and stalked away.
