His eyes dipped low, roaming over her scantily clad figure. It didn’t escape her notice that they had yet to return to their natural color.

“We can always continue if you like.” His hand slipped under her shirt, inching towards her breasts. She leaned back, knocking it away.

“I’m not playing anymore of your games!” she snapped. “You already made it clear how you feel about me. Not only am I sacrificing my dignity by signing up to be your blood bank, but I’m keeping your secret as well. The least you can do is show me some respect by not treating me like a disposable toy!”

The smirk fell from his face, the muscles in his jaw twitching. For a moment, she wondered if she angered him again. His fuse was short, almost nonexistent. The last thing she wanted to deal with was his uncontrollable temper, least of all when she was alone with him.

An emotion flickered across his face, but it was gone before she could decipher it.

“You’re not going back to school,” he finally spoke, all amusement gone. “You lost too much blood, stay here and get some sleep.”

Sage blinked, dumbfounded when he picked her up and laid her down further up on the bed. He pulled off her shoes before she could object, pulling the blanket up to cover her.

“Where are you going?” she asked as he turned to leave.

He kept his back to her. “Back to the academy. You can leave whenever you want.” With that, he disappeared.

Too easy. What just happened?

She at least expected a witty comeback or rude remark in retaliation. Taking the win, she rolled over and snuggled into the pillow, the blood loss taking its toll. Burying her nose into the soft feathery cushion, she inhaled his musky scent. She found it surprisingly comforting even though she shouldn’t. Sleep was calling her, her eyes drooping.

I don’t think I mind him biting me... were her last thoughts before drifting off into unconsciousness.
