Question Name the most basic seasonal trends in the stock market for the following periods of the year: January, late March or early April, July or August, October, and the trend into the end of the year.
Answer
In a nutshell, the general trends favor a decline in early January (perhaps profit-taking selling), followed bya mid-January rally. By late March or early April the market often reaches a peak, followed by a choppy market in mid-April, perhaps related to the April 15 tax deadline. The early summer months are often characterized by a midsummer rally, culminating in a market top in late July or early August. September and October are typically down months in the stock market (witness the 1929 Crash and the 1987 October decline), with the lows occurring sometime in late October (a good buying opportunity?). The trend into the end of the year is typically bullish, with the first two weeks in December characterized by a robust market. The Christmas hol idays are typically quiet, with choppy and thin markets.
There are always exceptions to these genuine trends, but the overall pattern is remarkably consistent.
Yet this very desire often us at a disadvantage in the market. By seeking a sure-thing, typically are late in getting in the market, and late in taking when getting out. Is there a better time to enter or exit the .if so, how do we know for certain that we are right~
