Fourth of July Celebration Cake

This red, white, and blue dessert makes a festive, tasty addition to any backyard barbecue or Fourth of July celebration. Garnish with fresh strawberries and blueberries.

Yield: 8 servings Cook time: 2½ to 3½ hours

Nonstick spray

One 15.25-ounce box white cake mix

1¼ cups water

½ cup vegetable oil

3 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

1 cup sliced fresh strawberries

1 cup fresh blueberries

Whipped cream, for serving

Strawberries and blueberries, for garnish

Line your slow cooker with a liner to make cleanup easier. Spray the liner (or just the insert, if you’re not using one) with nonstick spray.

Mix the cake mix, water, oil, eggs, and vanilla together in a bowl until well blended. Add the melted butter to the slow cooker and pour the batter on top. Add the strawberries and blueberries over the cake batter. Cook on low for 2½ to 3½ hours.

Allow to cool and cover with whipped cream. Garnish with additional strawberries and blueberries.
