CHAPTER TEN

“We found her, Alexei.”

They were the sweetest sounding words Alexei had heard since they’d set foot on US soil. He turned and felt the anger mingle with disappointment inside his soulless mind.

“Somehow, I doubt the truth of that, Boris.”

Boris and Vasyli squirmed under the berating look their king bestowed upon them.

“She’s with him.”

Alexei didn’t have to ask who the him was. Since Olga had admitted that the man at the truck shop had been an Alastor Protector, he’d known that the chances of finding the Savior Mate, as Chiara Silas was known, before Slade Gruber did, were slim. Yet he had been hoping he’d be the first to find her. His curses echoed throughout the luxurious farm manor they were occupying on the outskirts of Sioux City.

“But, they haven’t mated as yet, my king,” Vasyli volunteered.

Alexei stopped spitting his furious expletives and turned on them.

“How do you know this?”

“She was captured early this morning by the hybrid vampire coven of Palask. We were closing in to take her from him, when the Alastor King appeared. From what was said, it was clear that they had not mated.”

Boris glanced at Vasyli, wondering why he was omitting to inform Alexei that she had already been partly bonded to the mighty king, which was as good as being mated, among the purebred of any kind. A warning flash in his gaze kept Boris quiet. It might be the best thing for their own good. Alexei could become very cruel when he was angry. He shuddered to think what he would do when he got the woman and found out that little bit of information for himself.

“Where is she now?” he barked, irritation rife in his voice.

“With the Necrosis Originals.”

“In other words, with Brone Jones aka Brone Dragoon, direct sibling of the mighty Dracula,” Alexei muttered. His anger escalated to fury in a blink of an eye.

“What? Dracula’s curse! We didn’t realize it was his. There’s no way we would be able to infiltrate that coven to steal the Savior Mate away. Brone Dragoon is as feared as his brother, Dracula used to be. Some still refer to him as the Great Sovereign of all Vampires,” Olga, who had just entered the room, exclaimed.

“And that means, the Savior Mate is also his long-descended niece. His entire coven would be aware of this and would protect her with their lives.” Boris mused. He watched Alexei closely. His eyes had turned as black as the darkest night.

“As a purebred vamp-were we have the ability to compel them. Make it happen, Boris. I want Chiara Silas in my hands before the sun sets tonight.”

“Alexei, you can’t mean—”

“Quiet, Olga. I don’t need you to tell me what I can or cannot do,” he barked at her.

“Slade Gruber isn’t stupid, Alexei, and even though they’re not mated, surely he would’ve bonded her to him,” she said, glancing at the two men who were watching her through their lowered eyelids. She tried to probe their minds, but they had shut her out.
